FAQ About Our Self StudyQ What does a "disinterested third party monitor" mean? A A disinterested third party refers to the person you have monitor you while you take your test to ensure that you do not receive help while taking it. The monitor cannot be a family member, nor can it be someone who has a financial interest in you succeeding. For example, if you were a producer, you could not have your CSR sign your affidavit. Otherwise, any legal adult can monitor your exam. Most people use another licensed agent, or someone like a librarian, to monitor their exams. Not all states require monitors for testing. Q What's the difference between Online Interactive CE and Self Study? A Online CE courses are available online, 24 hours a day, from this web site. They are a series of dynamic web pages that present the course materials. The course content is similar to that offered in the Self Study Lite books, although in some cases it is different. Some states require you take a test to receive credit for them, others do not. Self Study Lite courses come in either booklet or audio cassette format. All states require a test be taken to receive credit. Q Is Self Study Lite available in all states? A At the present time, forty four states allow self study continuing education. Our Self-Study Lite courses are currently approved for credit in 24 of these. Approval is pending in other states, so please check The Van Wyhe Group site regularly for updates. In states where the courses are currently not approved for continuing education, agents order the course material for informational purposes. Check to see if Self Study Lite is offered in my state. Q How does Self-Study Lite work? A It is really quite simple. Select an appropriate course and order the course material. When you receive the materials, read the booklet at your leisure, complete the quiz and fax it to our 800 fax number (1-800-476-2945). We will grade the quiz within 48 hours, fax you a certificate of completion, and file your credits with the state (if applicable). NOTE: THIS PROCEDURE MAY VARY FROM STATE TO STATE Q Can I take the courses online? A Yes, we offer selected courses online. Some states allow you to complete them without a written test, others require a test. Check your state for details. Q Does anybody ever fail the exam? A Everyone who reads the study materials passes the exam. If you do not pass, you can take a second exam at no additional charge. Q What if I receive the materials and then change my mind? A Simply return the materials to us within 30 days and we will refund your money. Q How much does Self-Study Lite cost? A Self-Study Lite courses earn from 2 to 15 Continuing Education credits. The cost of the course is $10 per credit. This charge includes all study materials, postage and handling, examination, CE certificate, and filing fees. Q Are there any special rules in my state? A Yes. Each state has its own set of unique rules and regulations. For details about your state, see your state's page, or visit your state Insurance commissioner's web site, accessible from our resources page. Q How long does it take to complete a self study lite course? A Completion times vary due to reading speed, length of the course, and familiarity with the material. The average completion time is around 3 hours. Q I need the credits yesterday -- how long until they are filed? A Credits are filed at the end of every week.
