| | Happy New Year! 2010 Seminar CE: WI , MI , OH Agents The Dawning of a New Decade “One of the best things about the Aught Decade is that it is finally coming to a close.” That is the opinion of Rob Enderle of TechNewsWorld. Many insurance professionals would agree. But that is now yesterday; I want to know what you are going to do with tomorrow. Here are a few suggestions to consider as we wipe the slate clean and move into a new decade.
Latch on to Innovations in CoverageAnalyze every new coverage that is introduced; learn how to spot a winner. I am putting together a course on Innovative Coverage and will pass on tidbits as I pick them up. I think the new endorsements for property policies that will allow the insured to repair or rebuild “green” have tremendous appeal. Learn as much as you can about them. Then, add a little professional levity as you position yourself as cutting edge by checking out the new disability insurance for fantasy sports at www.fantasysportsinsurance.com.
Make Convenience KingThe new definition of good service is Convenience. Allstate knows this. They have developed Next Gen Self-Service to enable “do-it-yourself” claims handling offering a host of online tools which are available 24/7. Currently customers can input loss information, receive an email acknowledgement, and check the status of their claim. New developments in 2010 include options for smart phones, real-time access to support through “click-to-talk”, electronic document exchange and signature, and claim payments via direct deposit. Find out what your carriers are doing; then learn how to present it as a competitive advantage to those clients and prospects who are looking for a more convenient approach. It they do not get if from you, they will find it elsewhere.
Embrace ChangeWe all know how important effective networking is to the success of an agent and yet too many agents are ignoring the 20th century version, social networking. Take a 15-year-old to lunch (Mickey D’s will do) and just ask questions. Talk to your companies about their plans for the new media and just ask questions. Find another agent who is knee-deep in social media and just ask questions. Open your mind and start to gather information without a thought of applying it to your business. Within three months you will have a Eureka Moment. I am writing a course on competing with the Internet; I’ll let you know what I learn.
Quote of the Month:“There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” Anais Nin
